Thuka and their Maxi modular system is so advanced we thought we should add some more information and help explain exactly what a Thuka modular bed is.
If you search for modular in the dictionary you may read something like this;
"A Module is self-contained component of a system, which has a well-defined interface to the other components; something is modular if it includes or uses modules which can be interchanged as units without disassembly of the module."
When you apply this to furniture, in this case Thuka and their Maxi system, you can deduce that Thuka Maxi beds have modules (mid sleeper kits, high sleeper kits, ladder kits etc) that join together to create a different bed that performs a new function.
Before we explain each stage of the Thuka Maxi system (and how to create the bed that´s perfect for you and your needs) let´s take a quick look at how Thuka achieve their Maxi system by looking at the quality of Thuka bed-frames.
All Thuka Maxi beds are made from high quality polar pine and come with a 5-year guarantee. The wood used with the Maxi range is much stronger than other pine due to the slow speed Scandinavian pine grows; this also means less unsightly knots in the wood.
The image shows the difference between the wood thickness of a high-quality Thuka Maxi bed and that of inferior beds. In case you didn´t guess all Thuka Maxi beds are built using the thicker 3" wood. This created a super strong Thuka bed no matter how far raised off the floor. If you want to compare Thuka Maxi beds to others, find a Thuka Maxi bed and another similar height bed (mid sleeper or high sleeper) and give the bed a good shake. You´ll notice you can´t move the Thuka, but the cheap one will rock and sway unnervingly.
The "shake test" really is the Acid test when choosing your kids next bed, if it moves it won´t last and in our opinion it´s not safe. Thuka beds are designed to last and the wood used is strong and stable, no matter how long the bed legs!
Because of the reputation Thuka beds have many have tried to copy their award winning beds. Unfortunately these clones are designed to look good in a catalogue, and even in your kids´ room, but they won´t come with a 5-year guarantee and won´t last anywhere near as long.
The Thuka Shorty is the starting block of the Thuka Maxi system, designed as a starter kids bed and made from high quality polar pine and with a 5-year guarantee. For added safety and peace of mind Thuka include a safety rail that can be fixed to the side of the bed to stop young kids falling out.
Once you child has grown out of the short bed you might be thinking time for a new bed, right? Wrong! This is where the advantage of the Thuka modular design comes into play. Instead of buying a new kids bed simply decide what function the bed now needs to perform (in this example become a full-length bed) then buy the relevant Thuka extension kit. All Thuka extension packs are inexpensive and can be fitted quickly.
All Thuka Maxi Shorty beds can also become mid sleepers and even bunk beds, offering everything the rest of the Kids-Space range, only in a short bed. You can keep the extension kits and convert the Shorty into a full length bed as and when required – welcome to the world of Thuka Maxi Kids-Space, welcome to a world of choice.
If your needs have changed, it´s time for the bed to meet these needs. To turn the standard Thuka single bed into a mid sleeper bed just add a Thuka extension pack. 3 inch thick longer legs securely attach to the bottom of the existing legs, a safety rail and a ladder (which can be built on either side of the bed) are also added, and hey presto, a mid sleeper bed.
As these amazing Thuka Maxi kids beds can be built to fit your needs, and the requirements of the room, let´s briefly look at how. First the ladder can be attached to either side of the bed frame. No more squeezing the bed into the room only to find that the door won’t open all the way.
As your kids bed is now off the ground more storage can be added to the room. Thuka Maxi Kids-Space beds have a wide range of bed accessories to fulfil storage requirements. A chest of drawers, pull out desk, shelving units and more can be added under the bed. If you don’t require storage why not make your kids bed a fun kid’s bed? A variety of bed tents can be added to above and below the sleeping area including towers for the ladders. If you have trouble getting your child to sleep this may be help, after all what child wouldn’t want to climb into bed when they can climb a tower and into their own den? If you can’t get them out of bed in the morning, add a slide to the ladder section. Yes that’s right a slide!
Bunk beds are a great example of how modular beds can adapt to meet the needs of the user. Perhaps a few years have passed; maybe you have another child who also needs a bed. Bunk beds provide an extra sleeping area without losing valuable floor space.
To create bunk beds add (yes you’ve guessed it) a Thuka extension kit! To create bunk beds you keep the original Thuka Maxi single bed, add another single bed, and join them together with the correct Thuka extension kit.
All Thuka Maxi Kids-Space bunk beds have the option of the lower bunk doubling up as a handy sofa, great for when you child has friends over. Now you’ve got somewhere for two happy kids to sleep, you need somewhere for them to play. All Thuka Kids-Space modular Maxi beds (including bunk beds) have a wide range of accessories to turn a great bed into a great play bed. Thuka have a wide choice of tents that can be added to any of their bed frames, including football tents, bright colourful tents, pink and lilac tents and even tents that double up as a shop! Storage can be added under the bunk beds in the form of drawers, two separate drawers ensures everything is kept fair, one bed each – one drawer each. Now here is a real neat trick, how do you make bunk beds sleep three? With a trundle bed drawer under the lower bunk that can also be used as a very useful storage drawer, when no one is using it to sleep in that is.
High sleepers offer the most potential out of any kids’ bed on the market, and the Thuka range of Kids-Space high sleepers offer unparallel design, quality and practicality. High sleepers usually appeal more to teenagers, able to offer full-length desks, great for doing important homework.
Remember those bunk beds we talked about before? By removing the Thuka bunk bed extension kit, and adding a Thuka high sleeper kit to one of the beds, you have a kids bed spare, great for relatives or even to sell. You can of course use the single bed on its own, under the high sleeper. That’s the great thing about Thuka Maxi Kids-Space beds they do what YOU want them to.
Thuka high sleepers can have a smaller corner desk and a low wardrobe under them, a low table and a futon sofa bed, another kids bed and bedside table, a full desk, cube storage unit, open shelves, in fact there are so many different combinations we would be here a very long time going through them all.
